AERIAL CHOREOGRAPHY AS COMMUNICATION

An aerial artist’s creative work synthesizes the spectacle of aerial skill with the subtleties of human expression. This requires a mobile physical body and the ability to translate ideas into emotive movement qualities. It requires us to deprioritize manipulation of apparatus and the “”performing”” of aerial tricks as the building blocks of choreography, and instead allow choreography to emerge from the truths and stories that already live in our body and soul. This intermediate/advanced workshop allows aerialists the opportunity to find personalization and dynamics in aerial choreography. Students MUST BRING IN A SHORT SEQUENCE of aerial choreography that they are comfortable repeating several times. We will use different methods drawn from theatre and dance to find specificity, nuance and intention in traditional aerial sequencing. This workshop is great for aerialists with some experience who are looking for ways to strengthen their acts and gain approaches to aerial choreography and performance presence.

Typical Workshops are 2 hours, timing can be shortened or lengthened to include or streamline different material.
